Aims and Scope
The Revista CS. Social studies on Latin America has as its main objective the dissemination of social sciences research on contemporary and historical problems in Latin America.
The journal publishes research and review articles, case reports, and book reviews in the fields of sociology, political science, anthropology, social psychology, history, and cultural and gender studies.
It is addressed to researchers, students and others interested in studies on Latin America. Its contents are intended to contribute to the construction of new knowledge on social and cultural problems in Latin America, and encourage debate on them. The journal publishes articles in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
The Rev.CS is an open-access two blind peer-reviewed publication. It is published every four months with a continuous publication model. It was created in 2007 and it is funded by the School of Human Sciences of Icesi University (Cali, Colombia).
Sections
- Editorial note: In this section, the editor will communicate important editorial decisions to readers, such as the retraction of articles, changes in editorial policies or the Editorial Board, among other news.
- Presentation: It informs about the content of the issue and emphasizes aspects that deserve the readers’ attention. It is written by the guest editors or by a member of the Editorial Board.
- Articles: They include research articles, review articles, and case studies with a length between 15 and 20 pages (approx. 10,000 words; it can be longer if the Editorial Board approves), excluding bibliography, annexes, tables, or images. They are peer-reviewed.
- Other Subjects: It is a section included in thematic issues to differentiate the articles related to the specific subject from those on other subjects. The articles in this section comply with the same characteristics described above.
- Documents: It disseminates interviews, transcriptions, statements, and relevant documents in the social sciences and the humanities. The Editorial Board selects these texts based on proposals from the journal’s readers.
- Reviews: Preferably of books published in the last five years. The Editorial Board selects these texts based on proposals from the journal’s readers.
Peer Review Process
Our journal is committed to a double-blind peer review process. This guarantees the impartiality of the review process and promotes integrity, academic excellence, and maximum objectivity and quality in the evaluation of the papers previously selected by the editorial team.
In this process, authors and reviewers remain anonymous, thus eliminating any potential bias based on identity or reputation. Reviewers are committed to complying with the journal’s standards and the guidelines defined in our publication ethics policy (see more information).
Readers will find in each issue a set of articles rigorously evaluated by experts in the field, who have provided detailed and constructive comments to ensure that the published papers meet the highest scientific standards.

Publication Frequency
Revista CS (ISSN 2011-0324 | E-ISSN 2665-4814) is a continuous, open-access, double-blind, four-monthly publication. Although all journal articles are bound to an issue, they can be published in advance as soon as they have completed the editorial process.
Articles for the thematic issues are received during the periods established in each call for papers and are assigned to the respective issue.
Free subject articles are received on a rolling basis and are assigned to issues on a first-come, first-served basis.
Publication Ethics
Revista CS adopts the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) on publication ethics to avoid misconduct. Moreover, it has implemented agile correction and retraction procedures to guarantee readers that all published articles meet the quality criteria defined in the guidelines for authors.
The following behaviors are considered unacceptable and will result in the rejection of the paper at any stage of the publication process:
- Redundant publication
- Multiple/simultaneous submission
- Plagiarism
- Data falsification (photographs, statistics, graphs, etc.)
- Information falsification (authors affiliation, signatures, etc.)
- Impersonation and forgery of authorship
- Conflict of interest

Plagiarism Detection
Revista CS uses Turnitin anti-plagiarism software to ensure the originality and authenticity of all published articles. Each article is subjected to an exhaustive anti-plagiarism analysis to detect any possible coincidence with previously published works. This process ensures that the content of the journal is original and makes a genuine contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
By using this technology, we reaffirm our commitment to our journal’s academic integrity and quality, protecting our authors, reviewers, and community of readers.
Errors in Publications
When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is their obligation to promptly notify the journal editor (cs@icesi.edu.co) and cooperate to make the correction.
Likewise, reviewers and readers may send us their comments and suggestions by email to improve the quality of our publication or to carry out correction or retraction processes.
When informed of possible cases of misconduct, the journal’s editorial team will act in accordance with the guidelines established by the COPE (see more information).
Archives and Records
Revista CS uses the LOCKSS archiving software promoted by the PKP Preservation Network to ensure the long-term permanence and accessibility of all published articles (see preservation status information on Keeper-ISSN).
Sponsor
The Revista CS is a publication funded by the School of Human Sciences of Icesi University (Colombia) and does not charge for processing articles (APC). Additionally, the journal does not accept or include commercial advertising on its website or digital editions.
Privacy Statement
Personal information included in the database of Revista CS will be used exclusively for the objectives stated by this journal and they will not be available for any other purpose or person.
Revista CS refrains from using unethical communication strategies to promote its editions and disseminate calls for papers.
Copyright Notice and Open Access
The Revista CS. Social studies on Latin America is an open access journal. This means that all content is freely available at no charge to the user or their institution. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without prior permission from the editor or author. All of the above, in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).
All material published in the Revista CS can be reproduced without authorization, as long as the title, author, and source are cited. The journal is distributed with a Creative Commons License Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0). This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material published in the Journal for noncommercial purposes so long as attribution is given to the creator. There is no need to license the modified material under identical terms.
Authors are allowed to reuse the post-print (final PDF version of the journal). It is also recommended that articles be shared on social networks, academic social networks, personal websites, blogs, etc., and submitted to institutional and public repositories. These actions promote early distribution and dissemination, which can increase their citation and reach in the academic community.
