Canopy River - environment, society and profitability: a strategic balance in the rural tourism industry

This case study outlines the combination of business strategies that build on the protection of the environment and on social benefit, which have been used by Canopy River to generate profits in the adventure travel industry. The research approach to the study included in-depth interviews, documentary review, observation and interaction with the organization community in order to identify the actions carried out between 2007 and 2016. The results reflect the overall characteristics of both the organization and its environment, the strategic profitability and growth measures, the protection of the environment and social contribution, as well as case related aspects evidencing the balance between the strategic elements observed.
